| | Normally this is reserved as a personal blog, but something on American Idol last night sparked my interest so much that I have to write about it.
I didn't see the show, but I heard about it this morning on the radio. Of course by now, I've Googled up the video and it can be seen here: http://www.tmz.com/2009/01/22/idol-judges-lack-southern-hospitality/
Wow.
No really. Wow.
Let me be the 9,000th person to say (as it's all over the web) that I say "be careful" all the time. And if it is a threat, then I guess I go around threatening people all the time. I suppose I've threatened my husband and family thousands of times.
It's an expression of southern hospitality. Mark Rudd did not literally mean anyone harm by saying, "y'all be careful," yet Simon and Paula jumped the gun and took such great offense to it.
Actually, in Paula's defense, she has had issues with stalkers, but that doesn't give her a "free pass" to be downright rude and mean to people. Also, Simon was the first to call it a "threat." Paula then followed with a "that's not a normal thing to say..." Maybe not in her Beverly Hills lala land, Paula.
But in the south, yes, it IS a perfectly "normal" thing.
I highly doubt it will happen, but I'd love to see an on-air apology from Simon and Paula.
And of course, whoever reads this, be careful!
